First Eucharist is the second of the Sacrament of Initiation. All students in 2nd grade, who have received formal religious education for one year either at Holy Name parish or through another parish and is currently registered in Religious Education class or have attended Holy Name School, will take part in the formation process for the sacrament of First Eucharist.
During this formation period a mandatory Family Session and Super Saturday retreat will take place as part of the preparation for this sacrament. This is intended for parents and their child.
The First Eucharist family session will include a sacramental talk along with activities for the student and family. The Super Saturday retreat provides activities and instruction on aspects of the Eucharist and concludes with an Agape celebration/blessing for the child and his or her family.
“The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God’s grace and joining us with him in an intimate friendship.” Roman Catechism, II, V,18.
First Reconciliation or Penance is one of the Sacraments of Healing. Any 2nd grader who has received formal catechesis and has been enrolled in Sunday Religious Education classes or Holy Name school will receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation. As part of the preparation for First Reconciliation, the parents and child must attend the mandatory Family Session in the fall which includes the Rite of Enrollment, a sacramental talk and a reflective family activity.
The sacrament of First Reconciliaion will begin with a prayer service. There will be visiting clergy from surrounding parishes that will assist us with this healing celebration.
There is a $25.00 fee per child for both First Eucharist and First Reconciliation which will be due in the fall. The Parish Office requires an official baptismal certificate with church seal be obtained from the church where the child was baptized. Please provide this to the Parish Office at the beginning of the year.
If your child was baptized at Holy Name, no official baptismal certificate needs to be submitted. Those families will need to complete the Baptismal Information Form for our records.
